Jaycar have it on sale for AU$119 (most probably for Fathers Day here) and I just went to check if anything was different from my unit which is an early unit. Only difference I could see was the DC input now states 6-7V DC whereas mine states 7V DC input, something that has already been mentioned here….

However, did anyone notice something interesting on the images on the web page?

The unit on the display image has no Digitech marking and a black power button. It also has an Auto/Manual mark on the bandwidth button plus the Light button is labeled WX with AIR set as a sub option. Hmmm. This is the same image on the new boxes but the unit inside is the normal one with the red power button and no WX. My old box (yes I keep my boxes) has the red power button unit pictured.

Perhaps an update coming or an export unit as Australia does not have any NOAA weather stations…? No mention of Sync although the display does have SYNC and DAB indicators.

I bought my AR1780 from Jaycar when they were first announced because I was too impatient to wait for the Skywave SSB. It looked good on paper and I was really pleased when I finally tried it out. It turned out to be one of the best travel-sized radios I’ve ever owned. Being a radio junkie, I did buy the Skywave when it was finally released and an XHDATA D-808 when they first offered them at a huge discount. Both are capable radios, the latter being almost identical to the AR1780, but if I had to choose one, I’d take the Digitech. I just love it.

I’ve had mine for 6 months. It went flat quickly on standby when I first got it but that seems to have cured itself now. Maybe the batteries wern’t charged fully?

But all good now and a very sensitive radio, even just on the whip.
