Can you help Carlos ID this station on 530 kHz?

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Carlos Latuff, who recently shared a video clip of a Spanish language station he received in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Carlos is curious if it could possibly be Rádio Rebelde in Cuba. He said he received this station early in the morning (local) on Sunday, April 26:

If you can help Carlos ID this station, please comment!

I, too, have been hearing this Spanish-language station on 530 kcs., often well over the top of CAIO , Toronto. I would love to know a way to modify this radio for greater sensitivity and lower gain-noise. In 1949, I got an RCA Victor portable four-tube radio, which I still have. In 1963, I replaced it with a Masterwork Galaxy III (basically, a German Nordmende Transita DeLuxe in thin disguise). The latter remains the radio which I still use regularly. It has knife-edge selectivity, allowing me to listen to European MW stations with ease. The RCA Victor aet is almost as good in this particular. And the 1949 set actually bests the German set in sensitivity, receiving distant stations duribg the day with little “hiss”. For example, we have a local 1190, and 1180 in Rochester is around 200 miles away. Both radios receive Rochester during the day. But it is clearer on the tube set, despite the 9-inch ferrite antenna in the German set. My friend has a Zenith Royal 500H — and despite its “pocket” size and 2-3/4 inch loopstick antenna, it pulls-in this Rochester station at least as well as my German radio. This Nordmende-built set always had high gain-noise, such that only relatively strong stations are free of intrusive background hiss. Has anyone out there ever cured a problem like this? The Nordmende plays clearly and boldly at night, when signals are strong. Thanks for reading and co sidering. I have been DXing the AM Broadcast Band since 1951.

It certainly sounds like it could be Rebelde, but I’m surprised 1 kW would make it that far when there’s also Radio Enciclopedia on the same frequency, running 10 kW. That and CIAO from Canada are what I hear on 530 every night in the US.

Hey Tom, thank you for your feedback.
I just confirmed that this is not Radio Rebelde, but a radio station from Argentina (Somos Radio 530 kHz AM) retransmitting Radio Rebelde. It happened in the same day (Sunday) the similar hour (06h42 local time). I confirmed that listening now to both 530 kHz on my radio set and Somos Radio live streaming on Internet.
      Yes, I’ve been fooled. 🙁

In fact, Somos Radio is not retransmitting the live broadcasting from Radio Rebelde but past programs, it’s probably a weekly program in Somos Radio schedule devoted to Cuba.
