Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Jack Dully, who shares the following video of a crew replacing a TV station antenna on top of a 1,500 foot tower.
Fair warning: if you’re afraid of heights this might make you weak in the knees!
A fresh video on the same topic from Poland 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN3o2F_koIs
Operator had to exchange antenna system, because we are preparing to migration from DVB-T to DVB-T2 and channel re-framing at the same time (to free some band to mobile services).
There’s a 600ft American Tower owned structure just 1 mile from my back yard. That tower now sits empty, but did have the array from the ION TV Network local channels. On some maintenance Sunday nights, I could see LED flash lights moving up and down that tower and even monitor them on 151.625MHz, (One of the LMR ‘Dot’ FREQ’s.), talking from climbing to ground crews. What a waste to see that empty, but that’s American Tower for you, pricing their rates so that they are outrageous for most potential tower space could-be renters.
I don’t know what they’re paying these guys but its not enough.
Wouldn’t it was better to use that heli and crew to put an HF antenna and rotor up there?

The one pilot two rotors heli is the cool thing here.
That pilot must be top notch.

This vid puts into perspective the issues surrounding channel reassignments, upgrades, etc.
I’m not sure that’s a good video to watch early in the morning – parts of it are rather nauseating!
