Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Carlos Latuff, who shares the following recording of a USCG National Weather Service broadcast along with NOAA radiofax weather maps. Carlos notes:
Part of National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Weather Outlook Text, Hurricane Francine warning, broadcasted by US Coast Guard at Chesapeake, VA. Listened at Urca Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 13089 kHz, Sept 11, 2024, 23h15 UTC.
Bonus: Three NOAA’s radiofax on Hurricane Francine (and Tropical Depression Seven) via USCG Boston, and received at Urca Beach, Rio de Janeiro, in the same evening.
Thanks for the info, Chuck.
Kodiak was always hard for me to get here in Brazil.
Got only once and received a e-QSL card from them in March 11, 2021.
That looks about right. I’ve been assigned to NMN on and off for 21 years. All COMMSTA’s are now remotely controlled from COMMCOM Chesapeake.
For those who may be more DX focused, there is a WX Chart broadcast from NOJ (Kodiak) at 1540Z on 2052.1, 4296.1, 8457.1 and, 12410.6. Depending on ionospheric condx, the 8 and 12 mHz frequencies can be copied in the lower 48, especially on the west coast. For a challenge around the same time, NRV (Guam) broadcasts a NAVTEX on 4207.8. West Coasters may have a chance at that, especially in winter.
