In 1970, I received a beautiful cloth bookmark from Radio Prague, and I gave it to my mother as she liked to read, and I felt it would be a way to include her in my newfound hobby of shortwave listening. She used it for the next 46 years, and I recovered it in 2016 after her passing, still in amazingly good condition.

Dear friend Dan, it was kind of you to share your memories of the erstwhile shortwave broadcasts of Radio Prague of the 1970s. I appreciate your gesture in mentioning the sentimental cloth bookmark which you had gifted to your mother. I too, have a long association with Radio Prague since my high school days in late 1960s. I may mention that I actively participated in the Letter Box programme winning many beautiful gifts. I especially remember the live broadcast of 1968 when the invasion of Czechoslovakia was underway by the Warsaw Pact countries. The eerie sound of tanks rolling in the streets of Prague was clearly heard. However, I lost the recording of this momentous event but had mentioned the same in one of the yearly competitions held by Radio Prague in the 1990s. So much for past memories. I regret that Radio Prague with its haunting shortwave signature tune can not be heard over the radio waves. But their podcasts are good and so are the various interesting features in the Radio Prague International website. I wish Czechia and RPI the very best on their 90th anniversary. Greetings from a loyal listener, New Delhi, India.
