Our September 6 (September 5 in the Americas on WBCQ) program offers more of Caribe Nostrum, winner of Cubadisco 2016 in the Concert and Chamber Music category and one of the two Gran Premio winners. Guido López Gavilán, the Director, will join us to talk about the music. We’ll also talk with Jazz violinist William Roblejo, who recorded a special theme for the Habanarte Festival, and Maria Ochoa, who has a distinguished career in traditional Cuban music and is also the sister of Eliades Ochoa, with whom she has performed over the years. We will feature some of her music with Alma Latina during the program.

Mr. Gavilan with converse with us in Spanish, Mr. Averhoff in English, and we will feature music from both albums.

Our August 9 (August 8 in the Americas on WBCQ) program includes our final segment with María Felicia Pérez, director of Coro Exaudi, winner of the Choral Music category in Cubadisco 2016, and our other special guest will be Jazz guitarist Emiliano Martiní, who leads the Natural Trio in addition to playing with César López (last week’s guest) and other projects. We will also play some music by Los Dada, one of Cuba’s most psychedelic bands during the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Our August 2 (August 1 in the Americas on WBCQ) program includes more of María Felicia Pérez, director of Coro Exaudi, winner of the Choral Music category in Cubadisco 2016, and we will have a special extended segment with César López, whose Habana Ensemble is one of the most important and exciting Jazz combos in Cuba today. His album Sonajero won Cubadiscos in both Instrumental Music and Recording this year. He granted us a wonderful interview, and we will have a lot of exciting music.

The  July 26 (July 25 in the Americas on WBCQ) edition of From the Isle of Music includes more of María Felicia Pérez, director of Coro Exaudi, winner of the Choral Music category in Cubadisco 2016, and we will feature some Cuban Rock by Miel con Limón, winner of the Rock category in Cubadisco this year along with some new charanga by Orquesta Aragon, nominated in Traditional Popular Music this year. We will also play some Timba from the 1990s by Dan Den.

We’ll be playing some of the album Sin Escala by his group El Noro y Primera Clase and conversing with him about the album and the group. We will also have some Reyes 73 from the 1970s.
