Abbree AR-F8: Rolf’s mod to achieve zero volume

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Rolf, who writes:

Hello Thomas,

I have a Abbree AR-F8 portable.

It had a small problem: the volume would not get to zero, so you hear still hear noise if
the volume knob was on low/zero.

I opened the radio and found a solution.

There was a 100R resistor to ground.  Now I have that made to zero R.

After the mod I can now get low/zero volume when I turn the volume knob.
Greetings,

Thank you for sharing this modification, Rolf.

As with any mod, readers should note that you might void the manufacturer’s warranty and/or cause other issues with your radio if not completed properly.

Spread the radio love

I’ve got a similar issue with the Tecsun PL-310ET digital volume control position 01 is too loud to listen with earphones. It needs a modification so that sound is lower when using earphones. I’m starting to think about purchsing earphones with an inline volume control to address the problem.
