Listening to the 2017 BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast from the back of my vehicle in Saint-Anne-de-Beaupré, Québec, Canada.

I’ve created this dedicated post where you can comment and include links to audio and video of your 2024 Midwinter Broadcast recordings. This will allow you to post your logs and recordings at your convenience without my availability becoming the bottleneck.

There is no way to directly upload audio in your comments, however, you can link to the recordings if you upload them to the Internet Archive (which I’d highly recommend) or any of the video streaming services like YouTube and Vimeo–or audio services like SoundCloud.

To be clear: I will not have the ability to upload your videos for you–so please don’t email me your video files–you’ll simply need to upload them to a service above and share them here with a link in the comments. 🙂

As with each year, I’ll make sure the BAS team and the BBC receive a link with all of your recordings!

KTWR, Trans World Radio has recently announced they will be ending their shortwave broadcasts from Agana, Guam by October 31, 2025. However, unlike some stations that have vanished somewhat abruptly, there are still a few months remaining to log this station before they are gone from the airwaves forever. As well, with the help of various SDR’s located around the globe, this task should not be too difficult. The attached recording was made this past weekend on June 8, 2025, through the use of a Kiwi SDR located in northern Thailand on a frequency of 11965 kHz. At first, there is just background noise, but then, you will hear their transmitter come onto the air and power up for a few seconds. Their interval signal is played a number of times followed by sign on in English at 1100 hours UTC.

Israel launched a massive attack against Iran, Radio Mitre, Argentina, 790 kHz AM

Part of the Spanish-language news bulletin from Radio Mitre (Argentina) on the Israeli attack on Iran. Listened in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on an Xhdata D-808 receiver.

“We reiterate, Israel launched a massive attack on Iran. The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced this, anticipating a strong retaliation with missiles and drones at various points across the country. Israel declared a state of emergency and warned its entire population not to leave their homes and stay close to shelters. As sirens blared across the country, Israeli officials and military personnel, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, reported that the attack targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities and would last for several days. The prime minister convened his security cabinet amid the operation dubbed “Nation of Lions.” Before the attack, a United Nations report had warned for the first time in 20 years that Iran had failed to comply with its nuclear obligations. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had called on Israel not to attack Iran because Washington was close to reaching an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program. This is, we reiterate, an unprecedented escalation of attacks on the Iranian capital, following the Tehran government’s refusal to abandon its nuclear plan.”

Can You Help Locate Recordings of ZANLA Broadcasts from Mozambique?

I recently received an inquiry via the Shortwave Radio Audio Archive from someone hoping to find historic recordings of Voice of Zimbabwe, the station operated by the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA) during the late 1970s. The clandestine broadcasts originated from Mozambique and were part of the liberation struggle in what was then Rhodesia.

Here’s the message I received:

“Hello. I was wondering if you had any way to help me find recordings from the ZANLA broadcasts from Mozambique; Voice of Zimbabwe. I think the main broadcasting period was during the late 70s. Quite sure a lot of the recordings from that time have been erased/poorly preserved. Would greatly appreciate the help. Looking forward to hearing from you.”

Indeed, recordings from this period and station are quite rare and may not have been widely archived. But given the dedicated community of shortwave listeners and DXers here at the SWLing Post, I’m hopeful someone out there may have an off-air recording or some sort of lead—even a logbook entry with notes.
