Balazs spots vintage radios in film and in a Budapest pub!

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Balázs Kovács, who writes:

Hi Thomas,

Happy New Year! Some pictures in two topics:

1.) First, a nice Zenith H511 Consoltone (MW) got a few seconds of screen time recently in the fourth episode of the third (final) season of “His Dark Materials” series:

2.) At the end of December in an old pub in Budapest (Helvecia) I ran into some more or less old radios as a part of the eclectic decoration. Since these are partly Eastern European, they may be less well known elsewhere (deep in the basement, so even if they were still functioning, not many radio signals would reach them anymore):

With best regards,
Balazs

Wow! I love those pub radios!  I especially love the dial markings on the R 926 A!

Thank you for sharing these images, Balazs!

Adi spots a Braun T-1000 in critique of “The Allegation”

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Adi, who writes:

Hi Thomas,

I saw this TV critic report in a local newspaper.

It took me few long minutes until I found this series title in English, The Allegation: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13116888/

I’m a cord cuter since 2010 so I can’t watch it. Maybe other SWLs can view it on their TV content service and comment in what episode this Braun T 1000 is shown or used?

Regards From Israel

Adi

Luciano spots an Icom IC-705 in Westworld

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Luciano M. (LU7EME), who writes:

I think I have seen an Icom IC-705 transceiver in Episode 6, Season 4, of the
TV series “Westworld.”

The microphone is not quite the original, as the one shown in the episode has too many buttons and backlight…. The transceiver can be seen at the time 5:25.

I take this opportunity to congratulate you for your page. I have been a shortwave radio enthusiast since my childhood, and although I have recently become a licensed ham radio operator. I still enjoy listening to the broadcasts from all over the world.

Your posts, recommendations and news are most welcome.

73,
luciano.

Thank you so much for the kind comments, Luciano. Also, you’ve got very sharp eyes to have spotted this IC-705! Well done and thank you for sharing!

Rafael spots a Tecsun S2000 in “Moonfall”

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Rafael Rodriguez, who writes:

Hi Thomas

Once again the Radio Tecsun model S2000 makes its appearance in a movie, this time in the Hollywood science fiction action and adventure production called “Moonfall.”

Without being a film critic, the movie is very regular ; but it gives screen to this radio that seems to be a favorite in the setting.

Good DX

Great catch, Rafael. When I watch Moonfall, I’ll keep an eye out for that S2000! Thank you so much for sharing!

Adi spots an Eddystone among other radios in the Netflix series Spycraft

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Adi, who writes:

Hi Thomas,

I just finished watching “Spycraft” on Netfilx. It’s 8X30min parts documentary.

The last part is “Recruiting the best spy“.

I first spotted this lovely 880 Eddystone receiver but coming into the ~20 min was the story of the ICF-2010 and how an American spy for Cuba used it to receive the “numbered” code massages.

Later on there is nice illustration how the code was used.

There are few other radios pop here and there on this documentary as you can expect from the Spy Craft .

73’s Adi

Thank you so much, Adi!  Some years ago, I actually read the book upon which I believe this series was based. Many thanks for the tip!
