About Bill Tilford

Bill has been a shortwave listener since the 1960s, a program host and producer for the past several years, and he currently produces and hosts From the Isle of Music, Uncle Bill's Melting Pot and WBCQ Concert Hall in addition to curating the Radio Angela block of entertainment programs on that station and periodic collaborative specials with other stations. He also writes about Cuban music including on the website TIMBA.com and is active in the music industry as a producer and liner notes writer.

The July 12 (July 11 in the Americas on WBCQ) program includes special guest María Felicia Pérez, director of Coro Exaudi, winner of the Choral Music category in Cubadisco 2016. We’ll also play some Popular Dance Music by TImbalive, nominated in the Dance Music – New Talents category and some of Pasos by Maikel Vistel, which was nominated in the Jazz category in Cubadisco. Also, some songs from a couple of decades back by Adalberto Álvarez

Also, some new music by Eliel Lazo and the Cuban Funk Machine and the Pedrito Martínez Group.

For the next several months, From the Isle of Music will be featuring the nominees and winners of Cubadisco 2016, Cuba’s equivalent of the GRAMMY.

Our June 28 (June 27 in the Americas on WBCQ) program includes special guest María Felicia Pérez, director of Coro Exaudi, winner of the Choral Music category in Cubadisco 2016. We’ll also play some Popular Dance Music by Jesús Cutiño, nominated in the Popular Dance Music – New Talents category and some of Live in Cuba by Wynton Marsalis, which was awarded an International Prize at Cubadisco. Also, some vintage Irakere.

The June 21 (June 20 in the Americas on WBCQ) program features special guest Ethiel Failde, whose album Llego la Failde was nominated in the Opera Prima and Traditional Popular Music categories in Cubadisco 2016; we will also play some of the winner of the Traditional Afrocuban category, Soy de la Tierra Brava by Yoruba Andabo. We’ll finish Popularmente Sinfónico Vol II by Orquesta Sinfónica de Matanzas, and we will play some Los Van Van from the 1970s.

We’ll also feature some of the album Cosmopolitan by D’Corason, which won the Nueva Trova category in Cubadisco 2016. We’ll also have some more music from Popularmente Sinfónico Vol II by Orquesta Sinfónica de Matanzas and some vintage Los Papines.
