Radio Northern Europe International Show 9 announcement

Hei all,

It’s our pleasure to announce RNEI #9 to you!

RNEI 9’s music features:

An artist introduction to a brand new group from the Faeroe Islands with their first song announced by Heidrik from the band
A candidate for Denmark’s Eurovision from 2020
A catchy Swedish song I really like at the moment
The return of Evelina and Zupermaria
Some traditional Icelandic and Samí music I think a lot of you will like
A Norwegian song from the 1970s that I recently discovered with a beep but no boops
Our first Estonian song to start of the dance segment
Fading into a Danish dance song to end off the show

RNEI 9’s digital experiments on Shortwave:

Easypal QAM16 7zip file transfer (of a website!) embedded into our interval signal
A few hidden experiments (Running JS8Call nearer the end isn’t a bad idea ? )
DominoEX22 embedded in the final song

Please note: On WRMI the broadcasts are 30 seconds shorter necessitating a shorter interval signal and therefore a shorter Easypal segment than the Channel 292 and Onda broadcasts. Expect potential changes e.g. QAM64 or lesser error correction modes. The version sent to World FM, Unique Radio and later On-Demand will be the “HQ” version, meaning it doesn’t have the Easypal (because it sounds nasty) nor does it use the Comb Stereo system.

TIAEMS for this month is really good complete with MFSK data and lots of great music!

As promised the Saturday 6070 kHz broadcast will be the first one on shortwave carrying the new show!

QSLs are running massively behind schedule, we are very sorry, show first, website second and QSLs third at the moment making very little time to reply to them. We have got some ideas to speed up the process soon though!

This weekend: Brane Five broadcast on Channel 292 and WRMI

I am a longtime reader of your blog. My brothers band (branefive.com just released their first rock song “Free the Animal in You” today on September 25th 2020. I got the idea to launch the song on shortwave in addition to the streaming services to celebrate it, especially because there are no physical discs and records anymore. The first broadcast at 0900 UTC on Channel 292 on 6070kHz already got us many Reception Reports. The song with the corresponding announcement will be rebroadcast by Channel292 this weekend from 25.-27.09.2020. The schedule is in the attachment.

WRMI will repeat the same schedule next weekend. Now we hope to receive some more from the Americas and the Caribbean thanks to the broadcasts of WRMI.

Hello everyone,

RNEI has arranged a deal with WRMI to bring you our latest monthly show every Thursday at 1UTC on 5850 kHz (Wednesday night US time – just before TIAMS!)

Because these broadcasts are 1 hour long rather than our usual 30 minutes it allows us to have a little extra content we are calling RNEIX(tra).

[…]We will be broadcasting with similar processing to TIAMS so expect high fidelity sound in Comb Stereo ?

For our European fans:
New RNEI shows will always go out first on 6070 kHz Channel 292 before WRMI and any extra content will be available on demand.

WRMI’s origins in Scituate, MA

WHAT IS IT?

Located off Hatherly Road, the Scituate Proving Grounds was used as an ammunition dump and a testing facility for artillery during World War I. During World War II, it served a different purpose, beaming radio broadcasts to occupied Europe as the transmitter site for shortwave station WRUL. The station’s signal also had strong coverage in Africa, South America and at sea.

LAST WE HEARD

The station traces its origin back to the first shortwave radio license granted in the United States in 1926. In 1936, the station built its transmitters and antennas on the Scituate site, broadcasting university lectures, cultural and news programs from studios on Boston’s Commonwealth Avenue. The call letters stood for World Radio University Listeners.

At the start of World War II, its broadcasts were credited with keeping more than 900 Norwegian ships from being captured by Nazi Germany. The station was used by the U.S. Government during the war, and broadcast the Voice of America service from 1947 to 1953. The station went through some ownership changes and in 1960 its studios moved to New York. The call letters were changed to WNYW in 1966, and the station was knocked off the air by a fire at the Scituate facility in 1967.

When it returned to the air, it was bought by Family Radio in 1973 and was one of only a handful of privately-owned shortwave stations in the United States. Family Radio gradually moved the transmitter site to Okeechobee, Florida. The Scituate transmitters were turned off in 1979.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW?

After being vacant for many years, the Hatherly Road property became the site of the Seaside at Scituate Condominiums. As for the station, WYFR went off the air in 2013. Its facilities were taken over by WRMI “Radio Miami,” which is still on the air.

New VORW Radio International Broadcasts this Saturday!

Hello readers! You are invited to listen in to a new broadcast of VORW Radio International this Saturday.

The show is 1 Hour in length and will feature a variety of music from the 1960s to Present, including listener requests! It’s a very diverse show where you are guaranteed to hear music of many genres and eras!

Here’s when you can listen on Saturday:

0800 UTC – 3 AM Eastern – 1300 kHz WNQM – Targeting Nashville, TN and audible throughout the Southeast. Mediumwave DX reception reports are appreciated!

2300 UTC – 6 PM Eastern – 6115 kHz WWCR – Targeting North America and Western Europe

0200 UTC – 9 PM Eastern Saturday – 5850 kHz WRMI – Targeting North America
