All India Radio publishes a tender for 800 DRM receivers

drmlogoThe DRM Consortium has posted an All India Radio (AIR) tender for 800 DRM AM/FM/Shortwave receivers.

AIR is seeking a DRM receiver with a feature set that would include:

  • DRM decoding on both shortwave and medium wave (AM broadcast) bands
  • 1 kHz tuning increments on DRM bands (with DRM auto lock)
  • Stereo speakers and headphone jack
  • Four line mono/color digital display
  • Built-in stereo recording of DRM broadcasts–including a scheduling feature
  • Upgradable firmware
  • Built-in rechargeable battery pack with 6 hour playback time

Date: October 13, 2013

Time: 10:30 to 12:30 UTC

Frequency: 15,645 khz

Beam: South East & East Asia

DRM tests from Moscow starting tomorrow morning

drmlogoThe WRTH Facebook page has noted that DRM tests from Moscow will take place on 25,900 kHz starting Friday, March 22nd (tomorrow) at 10:00 UTC and ending on Saturday, March 23rd at 10:00 UTC.

Details of each broadcast can be found here–see English version via Google Translate.

They’re asking that all DRM reception reports be logged in this online forum with a detailed description and even sound clips of audio reception, if possible.

DiscoBallPerhaps one of the things I love the most about SWLing is the sheer variety of broadcasters out there. We can sample diverse offerings across a broad spectrum–from the BBC World Service to Radio Romania International, from pirate stations to numbers stations.

There’s even The Disco Palace: a station that plays only disco music, and each show is mixed thematically. This station broadcasts online and over shortwave radio via DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale).

Last week–specifically, on March 15, 2013–I caught about thirty minutes of The Disco Palace broadcast and was able to record it from my Bonito RadioJet IF Receiver. Reception on 17,875 MHz was excellent, although the DRM signal wasn’t quite strong enough for comfortable stereo decoding.

Frank hears Bureau Met in DRM

This afternoon I came across ‘Bureau Met’ on 5960 [kHz]. I have been listening since 0800Z today, 24th Feb. SNR is a constant 19/20dB (RNZI peaks at about 17 on a good day. ). Content is a speech by Martin Luther King, ‘ one small step for mankind’, a speech by Churchill, more Apollo mission, Bill Clinton apologizing to the nation, and similar stuff repeating about every 40 minutes..

I suspect this is a Radio Australia test tx from their Canberra transmitter.

No station ID on the hour.
